Parents: Children are your responsibility!
One of my goals in this blog is to give equip and empower parents. I think that this image is paramount in helping parents understand that having and raising kids is “their” responsibility and not that of the church, youth pastors, other leaders, schools etc.
In a short blog (click here) from a parents watch they say:
According to George Barna, 85% of parents believe they have the primary responsibility for teaching their children about religious beliefs. Yet it’s not uncommon for many families to view student ministries as a drop off service for spiritual growth and that discipleship is best left to the professionals and not the parent. Even though 2 out of 3 parents of children under the age of 18 attend religious services at least once a month, the majority of parents do not spend any time during a typical week discussing spiritual issues.
Discussion spiritual issues should be the “Rhythm of your day” for those of us who call ourselves Christians. Not just something that we speak about at church.
So how are you bringing faith and spiritual conversations into your home?
It’s very unfortunate and I’ll never understand it, I believe it’s selfishness, not taking responsibility for a child.
You become a stronger person for it.
